Syncplicity Launches Updated Administrator Dashboard

Get a quick view of Syncplicity seat and storage consumption to help you effectively manage file storage capacity.

File storage, sharing, and syncing is a balancing act from the IT perspective. As files and file versions multiply across users and devices, storage capacity is quickly consumed. Some businesses need all files saved indefinitely. Others regularly delete files for compliance reasons or to optimize storage use. With Syncplicity, it’s your choice.

Our new dashboard gives you a snapshot that you can act on immediately. At a glance, you’ll know how much storage capacity is used by active files vs. deleted or older versions. Pre-built reports help you drill down to the details. To make adjustments, simply click the  add more storage button or use our robust policy management tools to purge files.

 With the dashboard you can:

On Premise Storage for Syncplicity!

We are extremely excited to announce two on-premise storage options from EMC to augment our existing cloud storage option!

This approach gives IT unprecedented choice and control over where managed files reside, while users benefit with a secure, easy-to-use solution for file sync and sharing across all of their computers and devices.

It’s no secret that enterprise business users demand the ability to access, share and collaborate with all of their files from any location, on any device at any time. Unfortunately, many are using consumer-grade services that place valuable enterprise data at risk. IT often attempts to block these services and risk upsetting their end users.

Syncplicity Business Edition has always provided a solution to the dilemma  by giving businesses an alternative that provides end users the consumer-grade experience they want, while giving IT enterprise-grade security and controls. However, many organizations must also comply with corporate governance and data sovereignty policies regarding storage and handling of files that make cloud-based storage solutions difficult to deploy at enterprise-scale.

With the new on premise storage option for Syncplicity, we provides enterprises the best of all worlds - a cloud-based online file sharing offering that simplifies end user deployment and administration with on-premise storage that gives IT control of the storage layer, in addition to continuing to provide Syncplicity storage in the cloud.

EMC Atmos provides industry leading object storage technology, designed to support large multi-site, multi-tenant, active-active environments.  Atmos allows the application and storage to run anywhere and provides metering and chargeback capabilities based on bandwidth and consumption to ensure IT retains the necessary controls.

Windows 8 Certification is Here!

We're excited to let you know that we've posted an update to the Syncplicity Windows Client that is certified to run on Windows 8. 

Syncplicity supports both the 32- and 64-bit versions of Windows 8 across the various packages, including Windows 8 Standard, Windows 8 Pro, and Windows 8 Enterprise Edition.

This update builds on our strategy to maintain broad support across all new versions of the Windows and Mac operating systems and follows our update to support Mac OSX 10.8 back in August.

Current customers can get get the latest Syncplicity Windows Client here:  https://my.syncplicity.com/Client/Windows/. New customers will receive the current version automatically.

Syncplicity for Android 2.1 Now Available!

Our latest version of Syncplicity for Android is now available through Google Play (download it here). We're excited about this release because it brings automatic push synchronization of "favorite" files and folders and notifications of favorite file changes to the Android platform (it was available for iOS last month). 

Here's what's included in this new release:

• Automatic, push-based file and folder synchronization for anytime instantaneous access to files, even offline. Just look for the green checkmark to see which files have been synced
• Synchronize files and folders on device even when the Syncplicity app isn’t running in the foreground
• Selective sync support for ultimate control over which files and folders automatically synchronize
• A faster and more responsive application helping you access and sync all your files even quicker
• Granular network- and power source-based controls over when synchronization happens to conserve battery and data plans
• New Favorites section for one-tap access to important files and folders in users’ Syncplicity accounts
• Push notifications notify users when team members edit files in shared folders users added to Favorites
• Admin policy controls over synchronization capabilities and settings on mobile devices

We're especially excited about the way push synchronization works even if Syncplicity is not running in the foreground of your Android device. As long as Syncplicity is running on the device, if a file changes in your Syncplicity account (either you or someone else changes it) the new file will be synced to your Android device without having to do a thing! And, we give user-based and central admin controls (with Syncplicity Business Edition) to protect battery life or use of your data plans.

Syncplicity Now Integrated with SlideShark

We are excited to announce that Syncplicity is now integrated with SlideShark, the award-winning PowerPoint app from Brainshark, Inc.

The integration makes it easy for mobile teams to have access to all of their presentations in the cloud and be able to present them professionally and reliably from their iOS devices.  With Syncplicity, users have access to their own personal presentations as well as presentations published across their teams, both inside and outside the corporate firewall without having to drag-and-drop files or move them first. You simply save your presentations and they are synced to Syncplicity and the latest version is available on all your devices. 

Users can now link their Syncplicity account to their SlideShark acount and have access to a unified view of all of their PowerPoint files managed by Syncplicity to display them on the iPad, iPhone or iPod touch - with fonts, animations, graphics and colors intact. Users can control and navigate content, as well as connect to TVs and projectors to deliver truly powerful presentations.

Key Features 

• SlideShark users will see a cloud icon within their account  which will allow them to link to their Syncplicity account cloud-to-cloud.
• SlideShark users can browse and search for all of the PowerPoint presentations within their Syncplicity account directly from their iOS devices. They can import this content into SlideShark,so they have access to the most current versions of their presentations anytime, anywhere.
• Once imported, users can view and share their presentations with fonts, graphics, animations and colors intact) from their Pad, iPhone or iPod touch.
• SlideShark administrators and users who share files with others have the ability to track usage of shared presentations.
• Syncplicity’s remote-wipe capabilities extend to a user's SlideShark account, providing control to delete specific content in case of a lost, stolen or compromised device. 

Cloud-to-Cloud Policy Enforcement

In addition to providing an amazing user experience for displaying PowerPoint presentations, the Syncplicity and SlideShark integration gives IT professionals the tools they need to protect company files and content on mobile devices.  The integration enables users or IT administrators to “remote wipe” content within Syncplicity – causing corresponding content in a user’s SlideShark account to be automatically deleted without impacting the rest of the user’s business or personal content in SlideShark.

If a device is lost or stolen, or if a user leaves the company, content initially distributed by Syncplicity into a user’s business SlideShark account can be deleted even if IT has lost access to the user or device. This cloud-to-cloud policy enforcement is critical for enabling secure content sharing between cloud apps and supporting BYOD in a business context.

This level of security and control is not something you find in consumer-grade file sync and sharing solutions. You won't even find it in other solutions that supposedly target the enterprise. But with Syncplicity we believe you should not have to compromise between the needs of the user and the needs of IT.

Syncplicity for iPhone and iPad 1.7 Now Available!

We are excited to announce the immediate availability of our latest releases of Syncplicity for iOS!  This update continues our drive to make all our mobile apps the most secure and coolest apps in their class.

Here's what's new:

Content Editing and Access. We've partnered with Quickoffice to bring full bi-directional editing of all supported file types to Syncplicity. If you have Quickoffice Pro HD installed on your iPad, just tap "Open In...", select Quickoffice, edit your document, and tap "Save Back" to have your new version uploaded right back to Syncplicity.  

Single Sign On. Business Edition users can now sign into the Syncplicity app with their AD/LDAP/Google Apps credentials if your business has configured Syncplicity Single Sign On (SSO). With full SAML/OpenID integration, a separate password is no longer required giving you even more options to secure your business content.

Share Files as Email Attachments. Users subscribed to any one of our paid plans just gained another way to share files: as email attachments. Shareable links continue to be our best way to share files with others to reduce usage of your data plan and avoid email attachment size issues, but the choice is yours if you prefer a more traditional approach.

Restore Files. Restore any deleted file or folder with the tap of a button, or permanently delete it using your iPhone or iPad. After all, file management on the go should be something you can take for granted!

Full Screen File Previews. File previews now support full-screen mode, allowing you to dedicate every pixel on your screen to your document or photo. Just tap the screen to hide every piece of chrome out there, then tap it again to bring our buttons and menus back.

New File/Device Management Features and File Retention Policies

We are excited to announce several new features that enable businesses to better manage and control file sync and sharing in their business.

Syncplicity Folder and Device Management

Although file sync and sharing has been popular amongst consumers for many years, businesses face the challenge of how to enable users with the latest technology while gaining some control and visibility into multiple devices and folders that now contain business-critical files. Without the right administration features they lose visibility into all of the devices that hold company data and increase the cost and frustration of supporting users. For example, to optimize time management and productivity, they need to be able to make both individual and bulk modifications to specific devices and folders.

At the same time, in many businesses IT must have the ability to view and report which folders are being shared and which devices are synced to user accounts for compliance reasons.

With Syncplicity’s latest update, Admins can better manage all folders in a Syncplicity deployment and view all connected devices.

Syncplicity Folder Management enables Admins to:

• Create and review reports on all Syncplicity Shared folders with details such as “which folders are shared with which users and groups” 
• Change the Owner of a folder and add new Users and Groups to a Syncplicity Shared Folder and assign/modify their permissions (Reader/Collaborator)
• Remove Users and Groups from Syncplicity Shared Folders

Syncplicity Device Management enables Admins to:

• Create and review reports on all devices and services connected with their Syncplicity account 
• Monitor and manage devices based on owner, type, last connected date and Syncplicity client version.
• Remove and Remote Wipe (optional) any device 

Syncplicity File and Folder Retention Policy Management

Every time you change a file Syncplicity saves a new version of that file for you. Automatically. There is no drag-and-drop and no need to "check it in" to another system. Syncplicity automatically retains your past version history.  If you make a mistake or need to access an old version, it's there for you in the cloud. For our Business Edition customers we allow you to retain those files as long as you want... even forever.

Our customer have asked for more control over this process. Some want (and need) all of their files saved for a long period of time. Others have policies that require old files to be deleted at regular intervals for compliance reasons or just to optimize storage use. 

With our new File and Folder Retention Policies, Administrators can now set a default policy to control how long Syncplicity retains previous versions of files (file history) as well as how long we retain deleted files (in your trash can) before permanently deleting them. Admins can also set advanced retention policies to retain files and folders based on file or folder attributes such as type, name and size.

We are proud and excited to announce that EMC has acquired Syncplicity! 

The combination of Syncplicity’s innovations and technology with EMC’s enterprise DNA and scale puts us in a unique position to truly change the game for our customers.

In 2008 Syncplicity helped introduce the world to the power of cloud-based “sync and sharing” solutions. Our focus from the start has been to give businesses of all sizes a new way to access, share and collaborate on files leveraging the cloud.   Anytime, anywhere, any device.

With this announcement, we join forces with the world leader in enterprise content management, information governance and storage to usher in a new era of seamless content access, mobility and collaboration.   

We’re in the midst of the biggest shift in enterprise computing since the internet in the 1990’s.  Innovations over the last two years in mobile, social and cloud computing are remarkable, especially when you think about how quickly the market has embraced them.  But we’re just getting started.  The foundation has been laid for what’s coming next and that’s what’s really exciting.

The opportunity before us is to deliver on those promises, while at the same time providing enterprise security, controls and compliance that businesses simply must have before they can embrace the new technologies fully. Joining forces with EMC will allow us to realize that vision fully.      

For all the hype in our space, we’ve yet to see the Fortune 500 standardize on early cloud file sync, share and collaboration solutions across their firms as the new way of doing business.  There is vast interest and demand, with a lot of experimentation, but real enterprise-wide adoption is still in its earliest stages because having a secure, enterprise grade solution matters.  And it matters to everyone, from the largest enterprises to SMBs and individuals.   

Syncplicity will be a wholly owned subsidiary of EMC.  Our team will be integrating with EMC’s Information Intelligence Group.  The Syncplicity team remains intact so we can continue to retain our unique culture of innovation and agility while also joining our colleagues in IIG to develop amazing new solutions that combine the best we each have to offer.  Together we will deliver enterprise-grade sync, sharing, mobility and collaboration solutions that a CIO trusts and users love.

We are excited to launch a new look for our online tools at my.syncplicty.com! As most of you know, we recently launched a new design for our website at www.syncplicity.com that is consistent with the branding and design of our award-winning mobile apps launched last year.

You will notice:

• A cleaner, more professional look and feel
• Cleaner navigation for many elements
• Clearer descriptions of key features

This is just the start! We know you love the first-class online and offline access you get from our native Windows and Mac clients-- there's no need to go to an online "content management system" to access the files you need. But we also know that the browser-based experience is important. We are planning lots of exciting enhancements for these tools in the future. So, stay tuned!
